Full Job Description

Conduct a comprehensive literature review to identify the application of various battery cells, the techniques employed, and the scientific questions addressed.
Conduct structured interviews with cell designers to gather key insights into cell design and functionality.
Compile and synthesise gathered information into a detailed and coherent technical report.
Prepare an in-situ battery cell for characterisation.
Participate in the characterisation of the prepared cell using advanced beamline techniques at one of the national facilities.
Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and results.
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines within the laboratory environment.

Learning Objectives:

Literature Review and Analysis: Develop the ability to conduct comprehensive literature reviews to identify the application of different battery cells, the techniques used, and the scientific questions addressed.
Technical Communication and Reporting: Improve skills in technical communication by interviewing cell designers, gathering key insights, and compiling this information into a detailed report.
Experimental Design and Characterisation: Gain hands-on experience in preparing and characterising in-situ battery cells, studying batteries using advanced beamline techniques., UKRI seeks to ensure it creates and maintains a system of openness, fairness and inclusion - a collaborative, trusted environment, which is attractive to and accessible to everyone who is interested in developing their career with us.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline.
Strong interest in battery research and materials characterisation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new techniques.

Preferred skills:

Familiarity with battery technologies and characterisation techniques.
Experience with literature review and scientific writing., You are in full time education at university, and will be returning to university/your studies once the summer placement has concluded
You have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
Strong interest in battery research and materials characterisation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new techniques.

Desirable:

Familiarity with battery technologies and characterisation techniques.
