Full Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to join our Group Technical Accounting team, supporting the Head of Technical Accounting in Group Finance.
You will provide technical accounting advice to management and finance teams across the Group, getting involved in complex and often high-profile transactions. You will manage impact assessments on new accounting standards, amendments and interpretations, develop training webcasts, and update the Tesco Group Accounting Policies manual. You will also review the Group's annual and interim accounts, making suggestions for disclosure improvements.
The role offers lots of variety as accounting standards evolve or new transactions occur (acquisitions, disposals, property transactions, new revenue streams, restructuring, impairment etc). Given the Group-wide focus of the role, you will obtain a good understanding of the Group's global operations, together with exposure to many different finance management teams, so the role can be a great springboard to other roles across the Group.
You will be responsible for:
Providing technical accounting advice to management and finance teams across the Group on complex and material transactions
Preparing and reviewing accounting papers supporting the accounting for key transactions, explaining complex issues clearly and concisely
Monitoring, analysing and assessing the impact of new accounting standards, amendments and interpretations, including IFRS 18
Continuously improving the Tesco Group Accounting Policies manual
Designing and presenting training webcasts on new accounting developments and topical issues
Supporting the preparation of and reviewing the Group's annual and interim accounts, making suggestions for best practice disclosure improvements, especially in relation to new accounting standards and FRC thematic reviews.
Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
Excellent knowledge of IFRS and its application to real-life situations
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with great attention to detail and a talent for explaining complex information clearly and concisely
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships quickly and the confidence to challenge and question in order to get to the right answer
An audit background and experience working in a complex and fast-paced organisation
Our vision at Tesco is to become every customer's favourite way to shop, whether they are at home or out on the move. Our core purpose is 'Serving our customers, communities and planet a little better every day'. Serving means more than a transactional relationship with our customers. We are proud to have an inclusive culture at Tesco where everyone truly feels able to be themselves. At Tesco, we not only celebrate diversity, but recognise the value and opportunity it brings. We're committed to creating a workplace where differences are valued, and make sure that all colleagues are given the same opportunities. We're a big business with diverse working patterns and many business areas which means that we can find something that works for you. Everyone is welcome at Tesco.
We have recently announced that we will be moving towards a more blended working week - combining office and remote working. Our offices will continue to be where we connect, collaborate and innovate. Please talk to us to about how this can work for you.
