Job ref: 6b15b634899348c985986e71fb968c23
Full Job Description
As a passionate environmentalist, you will be responsible for the promotion of the Council's environmental commitments through the facilitation of educational visits to St Michael's Eco Park, working with volunteer groups, utilising social media, and running events. You will manage the landscape and habitats on site by carrying out horticultural, woodland and countryside management tasks as laid out in the site work programme through the safe operation of the Council's machinery and fleet. You will also work with Parks Management and Environment Services colleagues to develop the site work programme and contribute to the design and implementation of new projects. Excellent record keeping is a must; not only do our Park rangers record the species that call St Michael's Eco Park home, they carry out regular inspections to ensure the site is safe, secure, and free from vandalism or fly tipping as well as reporting on progress against the work programme.
Halton is a vibrant local authority with a rich history and heritage, featuring two iconic bridges that connect communities across the River Mersey. Located in Cheshire, Halton boasts excellent transport links between Liverpool and Manchester, as well as close proximity to both Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester Airports. Our progressive community strategy aims to bring about meaningful, long-term improvements that enhance lives. It's an exciting time to join us as we develop new policies and transform the way people access services. We are immensely proud that when asked what's great about working for Halton, the most popular response from our workforce has been 'our colleagues'. Our Team: Environment Services is responsible for a wide range of council functions. We keep the streets clean, provide refuse collection services, and deliver award winning parks and open spaces. We are the custodians of the local environment, and are keen to improve the offering across these cherished facilities. As part of our innovative approach to addressing the environmental challenges of the modern world, we have repurposed a former brownfield site into an exciting project - St Michael's Eco Park (SMEP). SMEP is the home of the council's solar farm which delivers power to the borough's DCBL Stadium. The SMEP site also hosts over 400 species of flora and fauna within habitats such as open mosaic, an orchard, grassland and woodlands. Your Contributions, At Halton Borough Council we want to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce and a vital part of this is to encourage diversity in all respects. We are committed to making our recruitment practices barrier-free and tailored to best suit the needs and strength of the individual. This includes making adjustments for people with a disability, neurodiversity or with long-term health conditions. If you require accommodations, please reach out during the recruitment process so that we can make this the best possible experience for you -
Aside from working with a great team, our employees have access to a fantastic range of benefits, including:
- A generous annual holiday allowance starting at 34 days per year (including bank holidays), increasing with long service
- Membership of our defined benefit, salary-linked Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) with generous employer contributions
- 3 x Salary Life Cover via Local Government Pension Scheme
- Investment in your personal development
- Free Car Parking at HBC sites
- Car leasing schemes
