Job ref: 5f8196c8a8194613804e3069e2e478aa

Full Job Description

You will conduct laboratory research on a semi-independent basis under direction of Profs De Vos and Shaw and the manager of the SITraN drug discovery facility, focussing on the implementation, validation and application of a novel drug discovery assay. You will be expected to design and evaluate experiments, develop new ideas that promote current research, contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, attend and give seminars. You will participate in the application for funding to support research assistants and in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate research that contributes to this project. You may be responsible for the operation of specific equipment and asked to serve on internal Institute committees.

You will have a Ph.D. in a relevant subject and a strong background in molecular and cellular neurobiology with a thorough understanding of the molecular basis of neurodegeneration and the drug discovery process. You will have experience in an array of molecular and cellular biology techniques, particularly relating to protein homeostasis. The ideal candidate will have experience in cellular assays in multi well plate format using biochemistry and high content screening. Experience of high throughput fluorescence imaging as well as good knowledge and practical experience in drug discovery, including development, implementation, validation and application of drug discovery assays, would be an advantage.

You should be strongly motivated, self-driven, able to accept direction and be an excellent team player. Good communication, written and interpersonal skills are expected.
