Full Job Description
Technician, This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Are you enthusiastic, well organized, versatile, with a passion for science and the outdoors? Are you practical, flexible, willing to learn, and able to work both alone and as part of a team to support our field equipment stores and facilities services? Do you enjoy fieldwork and want to use your technical and practical skills to support our research and teaching? Do you want a technical career at one of the top Universities in the country?
The School of Geography is looking for a self-motivated professional and proactive Technician, based on campus 5 days per week, to join our technical team offering research and field logistics support within our geography laboratories.
Based in the Geography Field Store and laboratories, you will provide practical technical support to a range of functions including operational management of field equipment. There will also be opportunities for field work, supporting field classes and collection and analysis of environmental samples. You will undertake routine maintenance of field and lab equipment relevant to the research, service the provision of School fieldwork vehicles and you will also have good organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. You will have a BTEC Higher or equivalent in Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent experience working in a field research, laboratory, workshop engineering environment or aligned technical role.
o 26 days holiday plus approx.16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) - That's 42 days a year!
