Full Job Description
Our therapeutic team is eclectic; there is currently a mix of modalities amongst our practitioners. This helps us keep an open mind and encourages the emergence of different perspectives within the team. That said, a relational approach is central to our work. The relationships made in the groups and community play a central role in helping members cope with the effects of trauma and the difficulties they face today.
As part of your role, you will co-facilitate the slow-open group. This is a weekly, mixed-gender group. Members can remain in this group for up to 2 years. In addition to running the group, you will carry out assessments with prospective members and offer some individual short-term therapy.
About us: Room to Heal is a human rights charity and therapeutic community based in London. We support people who have survived torture and organised violence to rebuild their lives in exile, through an integrated programme of therapeutic and casework assistance. We offer a range of activities including: therapeutic support groups, gardening, individual therapy and casework, cooking and social gatherings, and therapeutic retreats.
At the heart of our work lies the cultivation of community, through which our members can restore meaningful relationships, overcome the legacy of their traumatic experiences and integrate into the UK. Our community is currently made up of over 100 members from over 30 countries: including former political prisoners; people who have been persecuted on account of their sexuality or religious belief; and those who have escaped trafficking.
Room to Heal is staffed by a team of committed individuals, who work hard but also recognise that a friendly, nurturing environment is crucial for all of our well-being. By joining Room to Heal you would also become a part of a small, close-knit, multi-cultural and inspiring community and be able to see first-hand the positive changes that your work enables in the lives of torture survivors.
Salary: £32,400 - £35,535 pro rata (according to experience and qualifications)
