Full Job Description
Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use. Manchester City Council is recruiting new Neighbourhood Community Development Officers. Neighbourhood Community Development Officers are part of the Neighbourhood Teams working across the whole of Manchester. Watch this video about working in our Neighbourhood Teams - NCDO with subtitles - YouTube Are you someone who is passionate about enabling residents and communities to participate, drive forward their ideas for change, using their voice to influence decisions about their communities and neighbourhoods, strengthen a sense of belonging, and building relationships and cohesion? If your answer is yes, and given the exciting journey we are on, then this brand-new role may be for you! As a city, building on its rich diversity and identity, the refreshed Our Manchester Strategy (2025-2035) is driving the vision of a 'world-class city, which makes Manchester dynamic, thriving and ever changing. The City is growing, residents want to live in clean, safe and vibrant neighbourhoods, and get more involved in matters that affect them, new neighbourhoods are being created, and a growing leisure and cultural offer is helping the City to be an attractive place to live, work and visit. All of this influences how the City, it's people and its individual neighbourhoods function.
We are looking for people who have strong experience in translating community engagement, development and participation into action, which positively impacts on the health and wellbeing of residents. You will be able to: · Work in the heart of Manchester's communities to empower them to take ownership and drive positive change themselves. By engaging with residents and organisations to build strong relationships, foster a sense of belonging, and encourage participation, you will strengthen residents' voice, community power, trust, equality and learning (the National Occupational Standards for Community Development Practice); · Proactively understand the neighbourhood's context, to lead culturally appropriate engagement, and advance ways of working and initiatives that promote equality and inclusion, and celebrate diversity; · Guided by the Our Manchester Strategy, Building Stronger Communities Together Strategy (lead role in delivery) and Making Manchester Fairer, as well as strong communication skills, you be able to work across the Council, external partners and Members in their democratically elected leadership role, to bring about social change to address inequalities. Experience in securing funding and grants is also important; · Continuously improve practices through toolkits, innovation, evaluation, and peer support, ensuring good practices are embedded and celebrated at the neighbourhood level.
We're the local council for one of the UK's most vibrant and diverse cities. Working for Manchester isn't just a job - it's an opportunity to contribute to a city that leads change and transforms lives. Whether it's strengthening communities or driving innovation in public services, you'll play a vital role in creating opportunities and shaping a brighter future for everyone. Our Manchester is our vision for a fairer, greener, and healthier city - a vision shaped by the people of Manchester. It guides everything we do at the Council and is brought to life through the Our Manchester behaviours:
- We take time to listen and understand
- We work together and trust each other
- We show that we value our differences and treat each other fairly
- We 'own it' and we're not afraid to try new things
