Full Job Description

The Specialist Wellbeing and Therapeutic Support Practitioner (SWSP) works under an agreed system of management and supervision across the Specialist Teaching and Support Services (STaSS). Their aim is to support children and young people (CYP) aged 0-25yrs old on the caseload of the STaSS service, who are experiencing mild to moderate Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties and who do not already have access to the NHS Mental Health and Support Team (MHST). The intervention is short term and part of our graduated response to support the work of the service in ensuring a timely intervention as part of a preventative model.
We aim to work collaboratively with schools/education settings to support emotional wellbeing concerns in 1:1 and/or small groups interventions and we provide evidence-based interventions and child focused approaches to support worry, anxiety, low mood, resilience, and mindfulness (not an exhaustive list).
The SWSP complements the professional work of the STaSS service, using specific knowledge and expertise to plan and deliver support, therapeutic interventions and learning activities for pupils who have SEMH needs. There are three SWSPs across the service based in Medical Needs Education Hospital service, the Deaf, muti sensory and the Visual Impaired service and in the LA led Resourced provisions. They can provide specialist support, advice, and guidance as part of a team, ensuring the SEMH needs of pupils are supported consistently. The SWSP works directly with pupils on the STaSS caseload to ensure a high standard of wellbeing and emotional support so that children and young people have timely engagement, encouraging positive re engagement with their education and support services. They deliver low intensity, evidence based, bespoke programmes of intervention to support emotional regulation and wellbeing of CYP to encourage re engagement with learning and social interactions.
Bradford Council has established some provision for children and young people with SEND across Bradford District through the Local Authority led Specialist Resourced Provisions to meet the needs of CYP with Communication and Interaction needs and Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs.
Closing date - 20 Apr 2025
