PERMANENT L10 - L12 (£62,202 - £65,286 FTE) plus £3,000 recruitment and retention package 1.0 FTE To respond to this changing educational landscape, we are raising the profile further of English and literacy across the curriculum with this role. As Director of English and Literacy, you will champion the importance of improving standards of English and literacy and our pupils' cultural capital. You must think and act strategically within the school's overall vision; you must be self-starting, reflective and highly energetic; you are expected to model a can-do attitude to staff, pupils and parents; you must be aspirational, highly responsive and adaptable. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to lead our English department and develop our whole school literacy programme. The successful candidate will also be part of our extended leadership team to ensure that English and literacy are at the forefront of our priorities. The successful candidate will:

  • Be an acknowledged outstanding practitioner of English
  • Have a clear understanding of the characteristics of high quality teaching and proven experience of teaching across the whole age, ability and behaviour range
  • Be able to demonstrate their commitment to our students
  • Work closely with senior leaders to agree strategies for improvements
  • Be approachable and of empathetic character in order to engage and support colleagues in improving their practice but at the same time being fair and consistent in expectations
  • Motivate both colleagues and students to work hard and try their best through passing on to them their infectious enthusiasm and passion for their subject!
  • Actively share good practice and seek to explore ways to improve their own and others' teaching
  • Work hard to ensure all students make at least expected progress irrespective of their starting point and individual needs
  • Understand that behaviour management starts with the quality of teaching in the classroom
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities including personal resilience, drive and initiative and role model those personal qualities we wish to see in all our staff and in still in our young people
