Full Job Description

As a Registration Officer, you will be guiding and supporting the public through some of life's biggest moments including the registering of births, deaths and marriages. Deputising to the Superintendent Registrar and County Registrar, you will manage various aspects of the service, including ceremony bookings, register entries and providing advice on queries relating the service. What you will be doing:

  • It will be your responsibility to provide clear and accurate advice on applying procedures and the full range of services provided, including registering births and deaths.
  • You will be trained on how to register marriages, with the potential to later be trained as a Celebrant Registrar to conduct wedding ceremonies.
  • As required, you will accurately record the details of issues and queries, linking to the relevant regulations, legislation and codes of practice.
  • It will be key for you to identify noncompliance and enforce compliance following council policies and regulations, ensuring you notify customers of the result and give the relevant advice.
  • On occasion, you may be required to provide accurate reports in support of enforcement activity and appear in hearings as the council's witness.
  • You will ensure that colleagues are supported, teamwork is effective and you will guide less experienced staff, when required.

    It is essential you hold an NVQ 3 or have equivalent, relevant experience.
  • Ideally, you will have experience within a similar role or area of work.
  • Given the nature of this role, communication is key, and you must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and have a good level of numeracy.
  • You must be able to prioritise and manage your workload, ensuring both customer satisfaction and compliance with processes and regulations.

    What you need to know
  • This is a full time role, working 37 hours per week.
  • You may be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area to conduct registrations or wedding ceremonies.
