Full Job Description

AXIOM is one of the DSA alliance partners and is an unincorporated Joint Venture (JV) made up of four major engineering contracting companies each with complementary capabilities and skills. The members have excellent nuclear pedigrees, demonstrated expertise and effective track records across the UK nuclear fleet and related nuclear industries. The extensive capacity and capabilities of the AXIOM alliance provide the essential expertise that is crucial to achieving both the designs of the alliance and the wider goals of Sellafield Ltd and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). You will be joining a large existing team that clearly understands the different requirements for optioneering, solution inspired, design decommissioning, operating plant asset care, infrastructure and new builds. Substation Replacement Projects (Subs 10 and 15) will be the initial scope of Infrastructure Enabling projects work having delivery lead by AXIOM. The Area Engineering Manager (AEM) is a senior leadership role that requires extensive cross-discipline knowledge of value realisation of engineering design of systems and plant with a mind set for construction and commissioning in a nuclear environment. Scope

  • To Lead and direct a multi-disciplinary engineering Team to deliver a technical solution for the allocated area that meets corresponding requirements, associated performance conditions and constraints in the Functional Specification for the area, to the agreed time, cost and quality.
  • Identifying, implementing and complying with applicable safety, environmental and quality company procedures, policies, legislative, requirements as relevant to the area.
  • Develop, own and execute the design engineering elements of the schedule and estimate for the area.
  • Manage scope and Design Change for the Area.
  • Accurately report and forecast progress for the area in terms of time cost and scope delivered.

    Experience and knowledge of some, or all, of the following disciplines would be advantageous: EC&I/ CS&A/ HVAC/ Safety Case/ Business Case/ Space Management/ BIM
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in delivery of major capex projects for construction with an expertise in one or more specialist areas of engineering (as defined above)
  • Leadership in engineering function
  • Extensive post-graduate industrial/practical experience of designated skill set possibly within the nuclear industry but certainly within a related transferrable industry such as the oil and gas processing/refining sector or water treatment arena for examples.
  • Degree qualified and Chartered Engineer.
  • Experience of previous substation delivery is preferential.
  • Experience of and ability to manage early stages of project engineering delivery, including the development of clear business cases and justifications for investment.
  • Ability to work within NEC3 contractual mechanisms and effectively manage milestone delivery and KPIs.
