Graduate Electrical Engineer
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire, UK, WF1 3
Application Deadline: Monday 31st March 2025
Company: Drax Power Station, Selby, North Yorkshire
Salary: Year 1 £30,250 - Year 2 £33,000 + bonus & benefits
Who we are
We're not just talking about making a difference, we're making it happen. We generate dispatchable, renewable power and create stable energy in an uncertain world. Building on our proud heritage, we have ambition to become the global leader in sustainable biomass and carbon removals.
You'll be joining our teams of practical doers, future thinkers and business champions. We're enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.
About the role
You'll join Drax on a 2-year graduate scheme starting September 2025. During the graduate scheme, you'll have the opportunity to complete rotations across Engineering functions on site. You'll get to experience life on an operating power station, understanding the technical, safety, operational & engineering challenges associated with providing power to the nation! And at the end of it, you'll have a permanent role within the Electrical Engineering team.
We'll provide you with opportunities to train, grow, develop and progress in a direction that suits your own skillset and interests. There'll be a tailored training path, enabling you to progress towards your goals and professional registration.
Some of the activities you'll have opportunity to be involved with include:
- Working on & leading the delivery of major technical projects and schemes throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility to construction and commissioning
- Preparation and execution of detailed electrical engineering designs and calculations
- Producing business cases, technical specifications, drawings and schedules
- Working closely and collaboratively with maintenance and operations teams
- Preparation of technical documents and reports
- Risk and Asset management
It's a Monday-Friday role, though at times there may be a requirement to work out of hours to support outage or breakdown activities. We can offer you flexibility in terms of owing you time back on these occasions. After all, we understand the need for a work/life balance.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, committed and interested in pursuing an exciting and rewarding career in electrical engineering, within the power generation industry.
You'll need to have or be due to complete a degree or higher in Electrical Engineering. You'll possess excellent problem-solving skills, have an ability to communicate, plan and prioritise effectively; and have a keen focus on quality and detail in everything you do.
Experience in using power system analysis software such as DIgSilent or equivalent would be an advantage.
Rewards and benefits
As you help us to shape the future, we've shaped our rewards and benefits to help you thrive and support your lifestyle:
- £30,250 salary in Year 1, £33,000 salary in Year 2
- 5% on-target discretionary group performance-based bonus
- 25 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays)
- Single cover private medical insurance
- Pension scheme
We're committed to making a tangible impact on the climate challenge we all face. Drax is where your individual purpose can work alongside your career drive. We work as part of a team that shares a passion for doing what's right for the future. With Drax you can shape your career and a future for generations to come.
Together, we make it happen.
At Drax, we're committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their role. To make this a reality, we actively work to better represent the communities we operate in, foster inclusion, and establish fair processes. Through these actions, we build the trust needed for all colleagues at Drax to contribute their perspectives and talents, no matter their background.
Application process
We pride ourselves on creating a great experience for anyone who applies to join Drax, so you can expect clear and timely communication throughout the process.
Once you hit Apply, you'll be taken through our application questions. Adding a CV is optional.
We'll review your application with interest and be in touch if we have any questions.
If your application is progressed, the next step in our recruitment process will be to complete an online verbal and numerical reasoning assessment. We appreciate they're not everyone's cup of tea, but it will help us to determine whether you'll be able to deliver in our graduate apprenticeship role.
This will be followed by an interview with our Hiring Managers, covering a selection of technical, competency and behavioural questions.
