Full Job Description

Lincolnshire County Council is seeking a proactive and dedicated Claims Handler. The ideal candidate will be part of the Insurance Team. The Team are responsible for managing all aspects of the council's insurance portfolio, ensuring assets and liabilities are protected. As well as offering insurance advice and guidance to services, the team is responsible for the claims handling service, either in-house or via our legal partners. About the Role: You will be working within a friendly and supportive team dedicated to providing an efficient service. You will have responsibility for logging and managing claims made by third parties against Lincolnshire County Council and Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue from first notification of loss to resolution. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Recording claims on our claims handling database to ensure up to date claims data is available.
  • Investigating claims, gathering detailed evidence, and liaising with stakeholders. These include service users, council departments, and insurers.
  • Assessing liability and recommending appropriate settlements within council policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records and preparing reports for senior management.
  • Identifying and addressing any potential fraudulent claims to protect council funds.
  • Liaising with claimants, insurers, solicitors, loss adjusters, departments, and other partners on all claims where necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and relevant legal protocols, and internal procedures, to avoid incurring unnecessary additional costs for the council or it's insurers.
  • Undertaking duties of a similar nature as may be decided from time to time by the Insurance Manager.

    You will have experience in handling insurance claims, ideally within a public sector organisation. Have strong communication skills to engage with council departments, third parties and the public effectively. Have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. In addition, you will be able to organise and manage your own complex workload. You should have experience of achieving targets, and responding flexibly to changing circumstances.
  • You should have analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and the use of other information technology is essential. You should have excellent written, interpersonal and digital communication skills., In accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 (Fluency Duty), the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
