Full Job Description
The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding the overall marketing and communications strategy of the charity. This position ensures that all marketing efforts are aligned with the charity's mission, goals and brand identity. The Manager provides strategic direction, leads the Communications and Marketing team, manages all PR and internal communications efforts and works towards growing the charity's presence and income both online and offline. The role involves managing multiple projects, collaborating with the fundraising team on marketing and design needs, and supporting the wider organisation. It focuses on enhancing the charity's visibility and driving engagement with supporters, beneficiaries, employees, and the broader community. Key Accountabilities
- Marketing and Communications Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that aligns with Roundabout's organisational goals, ensuring a strong and consistent brand presence across all channels. This strategy will focus on increasing awareness of Roundabout's mission, engaging supporters, and driving fundraising efforts.
- Brand & Messaging: Maintain, develop, and strengthen Roundabout's brand identity, ensuring consistency across all communications, both internally and externally. Oversee the implementation of brand guidelines across digital, print, and public-facing materials to maintain a cohesive and consistent brand image. Ensure all messaging accurately reflects the charity's values, mission, and impact, reinforcing a strong and recognisable presence. Provide guidance to staff and stakeholders on brand standards, tone of voice, and visual identity to enhance credibility and engagement.
- Team Development & Management: Lead, support, and oversee the Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator, ensuring a collaborative and productive working environment. Provide strategic guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to help team members grow in their roles. Effectively manage workload distribution, setting clear objectives and priorities to ensure key deliverables are met on time and to a high standard. Foster a culture of creativity and innovation, encouraging the team to explore new ideas and approaches that enhance Roundabout's communications and marketing efforts. Regularly review performance, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for training or upskilling to strengthen the team's capabilities.
- Fundraising Marketing Support: Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote fundraising events and campaigns, ensuring maximum reach and engagement. Work closely with the Fundraising Manager and their team to effectively communicate fundraising opportunities. Support the Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator with design needs, creating compelling materials that drive participation and donations. Ensure all promotional activities align with Roundabout's brand and messaging, using a mix of digital, print, and social media to enhance visibility and impact.
- Oversee Social Media Management: Oversee the running of Roundabout's social media platforms, managed by the Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator. Ensure they effectively communicate key messages, engage audiences, and support fundraising and organisational objectives. Ensure content is regularly updated, accurate, and aligned with brand messaging. Work with the Co-ordinator to develop a content plan that highlights fundraising campaigns, organisational news, impact stories, and key awareness dates. Encourage the use of engagement metrics and data insights to refine content strategies and enhance audience interaction. Stay informed on digital best practices and emerging platforms to keep Roundabout's online presence dynamic and impactful.
- Design: Work with the Co-ordinator to complete design requests when required, creating marketing materials in Canva for Roundabout's services, fundraising events, and campaigns. This includes digital graphics for social media and website, printed materials, and videos.
- PR & Media: Lead on PR and media relations with support from the external PR consultant to enhance the charity's profile and promote opportunities of support. Act as the main point of contact for media enquiries and record successful media coverage for evaluation.
- Website Updates & Management: Regularly review and update website content to ensure all information remains accurate, relevant, and engaging. This includes refreshing fundraising event pages, adding press releases/news updates, service details and homepage. Work closely with internal teams to source new content, ensuring key messages are effectively communicated. Ensure user navigation is intuitive and consumer journeys are smooth, making it easy for visitors to find key information, donate, sign up for events, or access support services efficiently.
- Internship Development & Support: Build relationships with university/college internship programmes, identifying suitable opportunities for internship placement to enhance team capacity for fundraising and comms. Ensure interns are supported and gain valuable experience while contributing to the project.
- Internal Communications: Develop and implement effective internal communication practices to foster a positive staff culture, enhance engagement, and ensure that employees stay informed about key organisational updates. Create clear and accessible communication channels, encouraging collaboration and knowledge-sharing across teams. Develop initiatives that celebrate staff achievements and reinforce Roundabout's values.
- Performance Measurement & Evaluation: Establish clear key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of marketing and communications activities, with a particular focus on events, campaigns, and audience engagement. Work closely with the team to regularly track and analyse data from digital platforms, fundraising initiatives, and wider marketing efforts. Use insights and support the team to assess the impact of their work, identify areas for improvement and refine future approaches.
- Impact Report Development: Lead the development of high-level projects, including the annual impact report, ensuring it effectively communicates the charity's achievements, outcomes, and key messages. Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant data, stories, and testimonials that highlight the impact of Roundabout's work. Oversee the report's design and production, ensuring it aligns with the charity's branding and engages stakeholders. Manage timelines and coordinate efforts across departments to ensure the report is delivered on time, on budget, and with a strong focus on transparency, storytelling, and demonstrating Roundabout's value to supporters and stakeholders. Other Duties
- Assist the fundraising team with event preparation, including setup and on-the-day support where needed to ensure smooth and successful fundraising activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support communication needs.
- Adhere to Roundabout's policies and procedures at all times
- Such other duties as may be required by the CEO and Fundraising and Communication team for the benefit of any Roundabout stakeholders.
- Act in the best interests of Roundabout at all times.
- Maintain professional internal and external relationships that meet the charity's values.
- Participate in training and undertake appropriate learning and development, as identified through appraisal and regular reviews with line manager.
Demonstrable experience in a previous role in marketing or communications, preferably within the charity or fundraising sector. - Proven ability to develop and implement marketing and communications strategies that align with organisational goals and drive engagement.
- Experience in creating high-quality marketing assets using Canva (or similar design tools) and strengthening brand identity across digital, print, and public-facing materials, ensuring consistency in tone and messaging
- Strong leadership skills to mentor, support, and manage staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
- Knowledge of social media management, content planning and engagement strategies, utilising data insights to optimise performance.
- Experience handling media relations and identifying interesting stories to raise awareness and enhance credibility.
- Proficiency in website maintenance, user experience optimisation, and content updates to ensure an engaging and accessible online presence. Experience in Wordpress would be beneficial, but training will be provided.
- Ability to develop effective internal communication strategies that enhance staff engagement and information sharing.
- Strong analytical skills to track, measure, and report on the effectiveness of marketing and communications activities.
