Full Job Description
The post is recognised for Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
This post is open to holders of a current UK NTN. Applicants will be existing Specialty Trainees, who hold MRCOG and have completed a minimum of 5 years specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (i.e are ST6 or above at entry by 6 August 2025). Trainees should have completed all core clinical O&G CiPs prior to starting sub-speciality training.
Trainees will be appointed to a subspecialty training programme only when they have achieved a satisfactory ARCP outcome. Trainees need to seek support from their Head of School before applying to subspecialty training.
The appointment will be subject to yearly assessment/ appraisal, and RCOG SST assessment.
The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and/or programme has the required educational and dean's approval., This post is designed for candidates with previous experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology who wish to have further training in Gynaecological Oncology. It provides considerable experience in acute cancer presentations and the steps taken to manage and treat gynaecology oncology cancer patients. The role also allows the candidate to develop skills in surgical planning for complex patients and advanced surgical skill. The successful candidate will be a key member of the MDT and given the opportunity to learn key skills in managing a case load and being responsible for the diagnostics, communication and management of patients with gynaecology cancers.
Research interests are encouraged and the successful candidate would be required to deliver quality improvement initiatives.
The 10 trainees work on the middle grade rota and are contracted to cover each other during absence on annual and study leave. The middle grades are resident on-call. They are expected to take part in teaching midwives and junior medical staff and help to plan the teaching programmes.
There are regular departmental meetings and research links with the University of Bath, University of Exeter and through the Bath School of Postgraduate Medicine.
The successful candidate will undertake resident oncall ('1 in 16') covering obstetrics and gynaecology.
Applicants invited for interview will be requested to give a five-minute presentation to the Appointments Committee choosing one of the following titles: 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly of Gynaecological Oncology'', "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Gynaecological Oncology", "The Sound of Gynaecological Oncology", "Gynaecological Oncology's a Wonderful Life". The purpose of the presentation is to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the speciality and display the attributes and desire required to be a great gynaecological oncologist.
ST6 + equivalent grade, basic full time salary is £70,425
