Full Job Description

As part of the Diageo Global Innovation family, you will join the Packaging Innovation Team at our Bishop's Stortford Innovation R&D Centre. In this role, you will oversee our 3D Printing and Prototyping Facilities, working in a dynamic, multi-project environment alongside a cross-disciplinary team of marketers, engineers, sensory specialists, and liquid developers.
This is a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge sustainable packaging technologies, bringing live concepts to life for internationally recognized brands and contributing to Diageo's evolving product portfolio.
Additionally, this role allows the packaging team to integrate fresh perspectives by supporting student placements across Europe, Africa, Disrupt, and Commercial Science. You will help foster relationships with universities as a potential talent pipeline while balancing both direct project execution and supporting the team in delivering key initiatives. This position provides a platform to drive innovation and create new opportunities for impactful business engagement.

Education: Minimum Year 2 of a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Product Design or a related discipline completed. The candidate must be currently enrolled at Loughborough University, studying Industrial/Product Design.
- The candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm and interest in product development through assessments or interviews. We are looking for a motivated, self-confident, and creative individual.
- From day one, the candidate should be able to support the team with guidance and coaching. Over the 12-month placement, they will develop the skills necessary to meet the technical leadership and functional expectations outlined below.
Technical Leadership Expectations
- Organizational Impact and Influence: Takes direction and guidance from the manager to understand core activities and deliver on expectations. Conducts tests/experiments using established procedures and consistently follows best practices. Works collaboratively as a team player, providing hands-on help to technical team members. Once trained, takes responsibility for operating relevant packaging software/equipment and maintains a clean, safe work area. Comfortable adapting and working in a rapidly changing environment. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and develops good internal relationships with cross-functional partners.
Decision Making / Problem Solving:
Recommends solutions to complete tasks efficiently. Able to anticipate potential issues and integrate technical knowledge with data to form recommendations. With guidance, can diagnose problems and knows when to seek support for technical challenges. Uses technical information from colleagues and external sources to achieve experimental or project objectives.
Communication Skills:
Communicates clearly with management and peers, both verbally and in writing. Able to defend research and development approaches. Maintains accurate records within the laboratory notebook and other record retention systems.
Independent Judgment:
Manages workload independently and seeks advice when priorities are unclear. Able to recognize unexpected or significant experimental findings and discusses them with the line manager to determine next steps. Seeks clarity when dealing with ambiguity.
Functional Requirements
- Visualization: Initially requires guidance to design and model accurately, within set timelines, and with the required analytical rigor. Seeks to understand consumer insights and consults with colleagues for advice during support work. Designs learning plans and interprets consumer feedback with support from sensory teams and managers to deliver solutions. Proactively shares project strategies and updates the team on learnings.
Opportunities for Growth & Development
Professional Communication: Develop professionalism in communicating with the wider team.
Design and Experimentation: Gain experience in designing experiments and executing them according to brief.
Broaden Technical Experience: Work on various projects that provide different challenges, enhancing technical knowledge.
Exposure to Various Stakeholders: Gain exposure to marketing, consumer planning, vendors, and agencies.
Increased Responsibility: Opportunity to take on more technically complex projects as you grow in the role and work more independently.

Diversity statement-
Our purpose is to celebrate life, every day, everywhere. And creating an inclusive culture, where everyone feels valued and that they can belong, is a crucial part of this.
We embrace diversity in the broadest possible sense. This means that you'll be welcomed and celebrated for who you are just by being you. You'll be part of and help build and champion an inclusive culture that celebrates people of different gender, ethnicity, ability, age, sexual orientation, social class, educational backgrounds, experiences, mindsets, and more. Our ambition is to create the best performing, most trusted and respected consumer products companies in the world. Join us and help transform our business as we take our brands to the next level and build new ones as part of shaping the next generation of celebrations for consumers
around the world.
