Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen (fixed term secondment of 12 months) for a Sister/Charge Nurse position within Barnsley Hospitals brand new, purpose built 13 bed Intensive care unit., Leading a team of staff at Band 5 Grade or below to ensure the provision of a high standard of critical care nursing.

The assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.

Promotion of clinical excellence in critical care through her / his own practice and participate in evidence-based practice.

Participation in the education, supervision, support and development of both junior and unqualified staff including students.

Ensure the safe custody and administration of drugs.

Show professional leadership and act as a role model to his/her team of nursing staff.

To demonstrate an ability to care for the critically ill child in the adult critical care setting.

To provide expert knowledge and skills in the use and evaluation of specialist equipment in the Intensive Care setting, including dialysis and invasive monitoring.

To be able to accurately interpret information regarding a patients condition, using specialist knowledge and skills and implement treatment plans in conjunction with medical staff.

People Management

The post holder will participate within delegated responsibility in the overall management of staff in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures.

This will include participation in:

Performance review and development planning.

Clinical Supervision

Payroll Documentation

Duty rota planning

Day to day skill mix adjustment

Applications are invited from dynamic, highly motivated candidates who hold a recognised Adult Critical Care qualification with substantial and recent clinical experience in the critical care setting.

The successful applicant will possess a minimum 2 years experience at Band 5 role (or above) in an acute adult critical care setting and will have (or prove to be working towards) a Practice Assessor qualification. You will be experienced in the delivery of level 3 care with proven interpersonal, leadership skills and a proactive, flexible approach to help support and shape the service.
