Full Job Description

We are looking for an excellent Communications Manager to join the HM Prison and Probation (HMPPS) Communications team in the Ministry of Justice. Working to the Head of Internal Content and Channels, this role oversees the planning, management, and delivery of Launchpad; in-cell technology for prisoners. The post holder leads engagement for internal and external stakeholders to ensure platform is managed in an effective way ensuring editorial and legal standards are met. You will:

  • chair a National Editorial Board which brings together key members of HMPPS whose work needs communicating to prisoners
  • manage the planning and publishing schedule for the platform
  • engage with internal stakeholders and the wider team to ensure content is created in a timely manner
  • work with the in-cell technology Content Producer to create and keep updated an editorial standards document for local communications officers
  • have responsibility for sourcing content licences for in-cell technology, working closely with commercial and security colleagues to ensure these meet Civil Service and HMPPS guidelines
  • work with the Live Service Manager for in-cell technology to make sure the training for local communications officers is up to date and reflects central and Government Communications Service Standards, arranging to support training where necessary, working with the Live Service Manager to ensure that the views and needs of local communications managers are well-considered
  • working with the Live Service Manager and MoJ Digital to better understand and implement an audience-specific publishing model where possible
  • establishing a content review process for national content, working with the Live Service Manager to establish a local process
  • ensuring the voice of the prisoner is considered in the work and sharing that insight with local communications managers
  • working closely with the Head of Internal Content and Channels and appropriate colleagues to ensure consistency of communications across all prisoner-facing channels
  • acting as a SPOC for non-content requests which may come to the Editorial Board, funnelling them to the appropriate place
  • ensuring all nationally produced content is correctly cleared before it is put onto Launchpad to ensure reputational management
  • working across the HMPPS Communications team to make sure content creation is not in silo and that we are maximising all content opportunities for all channels
