Full Job Description

Do you have experience in developing system modelling tools? If so this opportunity could be a great fit for you. You will be working as part of our Powertrain System CAD team. Residing within the Powertrain Systems Engineering group, Powertrain Systems CAE provides vehicle level performance and efficiency modelling across all JLR powertrain and vehicle programmes. Covering both conventional and electrified powertrains, virtual analysis is relied upon to inform critical decisions. MATLAB/Simulink-based models are used to deliver functional analyses in support of target setting, concept assessment, component selection, performance, efficiency and driveability attribute delivery, gateway status reporting and aspects of powertrain calibration optimisation. You will focus on developing the modelling tools to deliver the engineering for powertrain systems with a specific focus on the development of the MATLAB/Simulink-based tool "CalSim" that has been in continuous development & refinement since 2001. Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Leading identification of 1D PT Systems CAE tool and/or process enhancement requirements to meet current & future powertrain systems analysis needs
  • Delivery of 1D PT Systems CAE tool and/or process enhancements, e.g. analysis automation or new feature's introduction
  • Delivery of complementary tool and/or process enhancements, e.g. model input / NGD management
  • Work with the CAE delivery engineers to ensure process documentation is maintained
  • Liaise with all internal customers of our business as well as offshore operations where necessary

As the 1D Tool developer you will need to have knowledge and experience within the automotive powertrain industry with knowledge in powertrain 1D modelling of both conventional and electrified systems.
  • Strong affinity with software development techniques
  • Proven success in use of programming languages for the purposes of analysis automation, data processing, etc.
  • Proven success in complex system model development, validation and correlation
  • Experience with object-oriented programming, preferably in Matlab
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • A strong working knowledge of conventional and electrified powertrain architectures and operating characteristics
  • Experience with version control systems such as SVN or Git
  • Creating Modern Luxury requires a modern approach to work. At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work. Some roles require more on-site work, but details of this can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview stage.

Product Engineering at JLR is centred on innovation and creativity. From advanced driver assistance systems to developing the future of electric propulsion, the opportunities to create exceptional experiences for the future of motoring are wide-ranging. You'll work alongside industry experts to drive product strategy, manage programs, analyse performance, and lead transformation initiatives. Exceptional careers that bring world-renowned vehicles to life start here.
