Full Job Description

As part of the global Energy Transition, the UK needs to build significantly more HV transmission and distribution infrastructure over the next seven years than has been built in the last thirty. BakerHicks has decades of specialist experience in major infrastructure projects and has grown rapidly in the Transmission & Distribution sector over the last 8 years, successfully winning a number of major projects within the UK. As the demand to deliver exceptional engineering design from our clients continues to grow, so does our need to attract outstanding graduate talent to join our Overhead Line engineering team. Our Graduate Programme As a Graduate Engineer within our High Voltage Overhead Lines (OHL) team, you will be part of a growing team focused on contributing to the UKs Energy Transition. You will develop an understanding of the principals of Overhead line design and construction, and the use of industry standard software packages in order to produce accurate, high quality design drawings, reports and calculations. You will gain practical experience in producing deliverables associated with the design and build of complex Overhead Line Projects. these will be produced for some of the main high voltage transmission and distribution clients in the UK and abroad, covering both contractors and asset owners. You will gain valuable experience of teamwork and fast-paced, exceptional engineering execution., The design work that you will be responsible for producing will include PLS CADD and PLS Tower models, Masterseries models, AutoCAD drawings, calculations, schedules, design reports, site survey reports, installation instructions, construction loading analysis, and specifications; where you will become proficient in industry leading software packages for modelling Electricity T&D Overhead Lines. You will develop an understanding of CDM regulations and applying these requirements in all design work, will be essential. You will be responsible for some client liaison with members of design management and construction teams, project management, earned value management, cost estimating and programme / schedule management. You will need to collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions. You will also contribute to the preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scope of work documents and change control documentation as required.

We're looking for individuals with a passion for High Voltage Engineering with a focus on sustainable and complex projects. The role would suit graduates of Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering courses, but other science, engineering or mathematics graduates will also be considered.

  • BEng/BSc in a Science, Engineering or Maths subject
  • Strong verbal and written communication, including report writing.
  • Desire to develop and learn new skills with ability to transfer existing skills to overcome new challenges
  • Attention to detail and understanding of engineering principles.
  • You'll also need to feel confident to challenge the status quo, strive for perfect delivery and possess a willingness to get involved with every opportunity to develop yourself and put our customers first.
