By providing expert groundwater and land quality technical advice and a regulatory steer, you will help accelerate delivery of this regeneration and vital infrastructure. Working with key stakeholders and their technical representatives, you'll build trusted working relationships and influence planning decisions. Your goal is to ensure groundwater and land contamination risks are considered and managed. Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You are required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training is given. We will work with you to find a role that suits your interests and circumstances. The team The Green Growth team is a newly set-up team in GMMC, innovating how the Environment Agency works in partnership and influences development. It's an exciting team with big ambitions, working in a fast-paced environment. The team is externally facing and a lot of our work involves interfacing with clients and external partners. We strive to be a "partner of choice" who external organisations see as invaluable in their development and infrastructure growth projects.

You are a credible and authoritative expert in groundwater and land contamination, focussing on land contamination. You'll have experience of delivering environmental improvements through others. You will need:

  • Sound technical knowledge of constructing and interpreting conceptual site models and awareness of hydrogeological risk assessments
  • Familiarity with groundwater chemistry and quality, and contaminant transport
  • Knowledge of land contamination characterisation, risk assessment and remediation
  • Awareness of the technical frameworks and approaches by which land contamination is managed within England, along with relevant environmental regulations
  • Skills in team working, influencing and communication
  • An ability to work flexibly and respond to competing demands in a time-pressured environment
  • We are fully committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.
