If you would like to work in a Facilities Team and have a passion for the natural environment this is an exciting opportunity for you. We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Facilities Officer to come join us in our Monitoring Laboratory based in Leeds. You will assist with the daily operation of the Olympia House site. Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. Further information on incident response can be found within your candidate pack. Your main duties will include:-

  • Overseeing Contractors, completing permits to work, ensuring routine work is completed in a safe manner.
  • Managing and resolving critical building breakdowns e.g. heating, water, electricity, gas, security alarms. Breakdowns on laboratory safety critical equipment such as local exhaust ventilation and oxygen depletion sensors.
  • Managing local contracts e.g. security, cleaning, gritting.
  • Laboratory and office waste management. Ensuring all waste follows the correct waste stream
  • Purchasing auxiliary equipment e.g. stationary, chairs, screens.
  • Internal communications - Sends out regular updates to staff about routine and ad hoc building repairs. Ensures that critical Health and Safety information is cascaded throughout the site.
  • The team You'll be working within a small Facilities team alongside approximately 35 Analytical staff and 12 Customer Services colleagues. We provide analytical services to the Environment Agency and external customers which includes the analysis of sediments, soils, biota and waters from across England and around the coastline, as well as offering a bespoke Forensic Waste Service.     Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:
  • Excellent communication skills are essential with the ability to convey complex information.
  • A strong work ethic with a desire to get the job done.
  • Ability to problem solve and work within tight timescales and HSE guidelines.
  • Ideally, you will have a good knowledge of Facilities Management.
