Full Job Description

We are looking for a motivated, self-starter to help us: 1. Manage the renewal, contracts and supplier management for some of the Information Resources we subscribe to, e.g. Science Direct. 2. Ensure information library subject matter expertise is retained within the team, ensuring we make informed decisions on what we acquire and help us demonstrate value for money. 3. Manage the renewal and contracts for data we acquire for corporate use, e.g. data from UK Centre of Ecology and Hydrology and British Geological Survey. You will become the Environment Agency point of contact for the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement, under which we acquire Ordnance Survey data. 4. Contribute to the ongoing development of our Corporate Data Acquisition Model, which will provide a framework for how we acquire, use, manage and dispose of 3rd party data. The team The Data Sharing and Access team is part of Data and Information within the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate. We are a national team providing technical services, advice and guidance for sharing data and information. Our work includes: managing the Defra Data Services Platform; ensuring our data has discoverable metadata; providing access to Information Resources; leadership in Approval for Access, Data acquisition, Data Flow Mapping, Freedom of Information, and Intellectual Property.

We are looking for an individual with:

  • A background in Information Resources/librarianship - desirable.
  • Knowledge of copyright law - essential.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines - essential. Renewals have to be completed on time, otherwise we risk losing access. You need to be able to plan ahead.
  • Ability to build strong relationships within the Environment Agency and Defra - essential. You will become the 'go to' person when staff have queries about specific resources and data.
  • You will be:
  • Tenacious and not afraid to chase colleagues to complete actions when deadlines are looming, and when we need to confirm compliance with 3rd party licence terms.
  • Comfortable using different digital tools.
