Full Job Description

A high-achieving secondary school in the vibrant borough of Sutton is seeking to appoint an ambitious and talented Chemistry Teacher to join their successful Science department as 2nd in Charge. This is a full-time, permanent position commencing in January 2025, offering an excellent opportunity for career progression and leadership development. The Role: The successful candidate will be a skilled and passionate Chemistry Teacher with the ability to inspire students and lead colleagues within the Science department. Key responsibilities include:

  • Teaching and Learning:
  • Planning and delivering engaging and challenging Chemistry lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and potentially 5, fostering students' curiosity and understanding of chemical concepts.
  • Creating a stimulating and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation, experimentation, and critical thinking.
  • Assessing and monitoring student progress, providing constructive feedback, and implementing differentiated learning strategies to cater to diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Leadership and Management:
  • Supporting the Head of Science in the day-to-day management of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and resource management.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of Science teachers, providing guidance and support to enhance teaching and learning within the department.
  • Contributing to the strategic development of the Science department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across all key stages.

    A degree in Chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • A strong understanding of the KS3, KS4, and (ideally) KS5 Chemistry curriculum.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for chemistry.
  • Proven experience of successful teaching and a commitment to raising attainment.
  • Strong leadership potential and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to motivate and inspire colleagues and students.
