Scheme overview:
Over four years, you'll gain hands-on experience, develop expertise, and play a crucial role in creating a better place for people and the environment. Through a range of opportunities relevant to your wider department, you'll develop to be our next generation of technical experts.
What you'll do:
-Work alongside subject experts and colleagues in your base team.
-Develop a personalised training plan that is bespoke to you, aligns with your professional journey and the needs of the business.
-Throughout your journey you'll collect evidence of your development and skills to progress through professional memberships towards chartership.
-Attend your base office a minimum of 2 days per week, visit sites and meetings at other offices as required.
-Take on an incident role and engage in activity responding to environmental and/or flood incidents.
Key responsibilities:
-Perform duties that enhance your technical skills.
-Develop and follow a dynamic development plan leading to chartership.
-Actively participate in the Graduate Trainee community.
-Collaborate with other teams to gain a broader understanding of the Environment Agency's remit to protecting the environment.

Assessment Process - Behavioural Based Assessment (BBA):
We assess candidates through behavioural-based assessments, proven to effectively measure aptitude and potential. Once you've applied online, you'll receive a link the next working day to complete the BBA.
The team
You'll join a team of professionals who will support you throughout the scheme with development opportunities to help you become our next generation of technical experts.
You'll also be part of a community of approximately 70 Graduate Trainees, forming a strong support network for your career at the Environment Agency.
We are looking for applicants with a variety of skills and behaviours, and a willingness to develop within new areas with the aspiration of becoming our future generation of technical experts. You will be someone with a genuine interest in the environment and be passionate about creating a better place for people and wildlife.
Your path to chartership will build upon your existing technical knowledge and experiences. It will be a journey of self-driven exploration, where curiosity and the ability to reflect on your learning and experiences will guide your personal and professional growth.
Accessing and maintaining networks will be a key aspect of supporting your development, work and career, this will require strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate. There are occasions where you will need to be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the graduate training scheme you will need to meet ALL the following criteria:
Criteria 1
-You are a UK, Commonwealth or EEA (European Economic Area) national
-You have the right to work in the UK
Criteria 2
-Must have a minimum of a honours degree in an environment or science related subject (see individual job roles for more information)
-Must have graduated with a relevant degree, masters or PHD from June 2020 till September 2025 and/ or have current working knowledge of the subject.
Criteria 3
-Must have a full UK driving licence and be comfortable potentially driving to a range of site locations.
