Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has been developed to join Gloucestershire's Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway as a PSO in the Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS). IIRMS services operate across the SW region offering psychosocial, psychoeducational, and formal psychological interventions to a small caseload of complex, high risk and hard to reach individuals who are at particular risk of failure in the community through disengagement and further serious offending. This is a unique opportunity to work with probation and health colleagues to improve outcomes for people with complex needs. As a PSO in a mutli discipliary team, a flexible and collaborative approach is required, with a willingness to travel. Duties may include, engagement and induction work, including prison visits; the co-delivery of groupwork; offering individuals a range of practical and social inclusion support such as accompanying them to relevant external appointments (GP registration, benefits assessments, pursuit of employment, hobbies, and sports activities etc). You will be part of a team with a diverse skillset which may include probation officers, forensic and clinical psychologists, clinical nurse specialists, health care support workers and occupational therapists. You will be an important element of the interface between health and probation. You will support your probation colleagues to maintain a good understanding of and engagement with the IIRMS service. This may include delivering briefings and training alongside IIRMS colleagues. You will also play a key role in the operating of the Hub, an innovative social inclusion space for IIRMS cases. As an integral part of the MDT, you will bring probation knowledge and expertise to the service. The role requires a high degree of motivation and commitment to a relational, compassionate, and professional approach with a strong ethos for team collaboration. You will be a member of the wider SW OPD Pathway network. We are committed to learning and development, and you will be provided with appropriate training, regular support and supervision. Responsibilities may include:

  • Contribute to the delivery of Risk Management Plans and report significant changes relating to risk of harm and/or reoffending or any non-compliance within agreed enforcement procedures Proactively support the strategic and operational objectives of the IIRMS through engagement with team and clinical meetings Use HMPPS IT systems to produce, update and maintain records and other documentation within agreed timescales Ensure effective referrals to services through timely communication with offender management staff, interventions staff, service providers and external agencies to review progress and manage associated risks Take a primary role in engagement and social inclusion activities Take a primary role in the operating of the Hub initiatives Deliver and co-lead groups with

  • Support the maintenance and processing of OPD data to ensure effective and timely delivery of services Demonstrate pro-social modelling skills by consistently reinforcing pro-social behaviour and attitudes and challenging anti-social behaviour and attitudes Work within the aims, values and relevant policies of the PS and Health partners A commitment to continuous professional development in accordance with the relational approach of the OPD Pathway Represent the Probation Service and OPD Pathway with professionalism when interacting with all stakeholders The role is 0.5FTE and can be worked part time or alongside an existing PSO role We welcome applications from a diversity of working backgrounds and from experienced PSOs.   • OPD Pathway Lead), Ceri Jones, ceri.jones8@nhs.net(AWPIIRMS Lead) Overview of the job The job holder will undertake the full range of work with people on probation before and after sentence. This will include assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and producing reports. The job holder will provide case management support to a full range of people on probation utilising service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgement., To assess and manage the risk (including risk management plans and escalation) posed by people on probation to protect victims of crime and the general public by:
  • Liaising, providing information and advice to criminal courts, criminal justice agencies and other partner agencies.
  • Supervise and manage risk of those people on probation subject to community sentences, during and after custodial sentences.
  • Work with other agencies and groups to prevent crime and meet the needs of victims and people on probation.
  • In line with PS policies and procedures, the job holder must at all times demonstrate a commitment to equality and inclusion and an understanding of their relevance to the work they do.
