Full Job Description

The successful candidate will join a team of Specialist Screening Nurses responsible for providing care for patients participating in the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme.

The primary purpose of this role is to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning in nurse led clinics as part of the community AAA screening programme and undertake nurse assessments for those patients who screen positive for AAA.

The post holder will ensure abdominal ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures as identified by the National Screening Programme (NAAASP).

The role will involve coordinating care, working autonomously and addressing the needs of individuals that arise. It will also entail detailed and accurate data entry into local and national databases.

The post holder will require excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to their work.

Working days are mainly Monday to Friday 9-5 but with occasional Saturday or evening work. A degree of flexibility regarding days worked is essential.

This is a permanent position.

Our base is at Glenfield Hospital but clinics are held daily around Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland so the post involves daily travel.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

high-quality care for all,

being a great place to work,

partnerships for impact, and

research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

we are compassionate,

we are proud,

we are inclusive, and

we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
