Full Job Description

The Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme Greater Manchester & East Cheshire are looking to appoint a Specialist Screening Nurse to work in our friendly and successful team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with an interest in population screening who would like to expand their nursing role by undertaking training to perform ultrasound scanning.

The successful candidate will be required to complete the Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners which will be undertaken on the job and with dedicated study time and support.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join our diverse team responsible for providing care for patients participating in the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme.

The primary purpose of this role is to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning in nurse led clinics as part of the community AAA Screening Programme and undertake nurse assessments for those patients who screen positive for AAA.

The post holder will ensure abdominal ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures as identified by the National Screening Programme (NAAASP).

The role will involve coordinating care, working autonomously and addressing the needs of individuals that arise. It will also entail detailed and accurate data entry into local and national databases.

The post holder will require excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to their work.

Working days are mainly Monday to Friday 08:30-4:30 but with occasional Saturday or evening work. A degree of flexibility regarding days worked is essential.

This is a permanent position.

Our base is at Wythenshawe Hospital but clinics are held daily across the Greater Manchester & East Cheshire region so the post involves daily travel.
