Full Job Description

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. aAh!, Manchester Metropolitan University's student magazine, is looking for a talented, driven and creative individual to lead aAh! online and print platforms to success. Reporting to the Student Media Officer, the aAh! Student Media Assistant will be support the smooth operation of the online and print issues. They will be expected to use an imaginative approach towards publishing regular professional, engaging content, aiming to make their own work a distinct and recognisable part of www.aah-magazine.co.uk They will be responsible for working alongside Section Editors to make major editorial decisions for the magazine in both online and print form. The aAh! Editorial Assistant is expected to be committed and work diligently with the rest of team to ensure the online and print magazines are to a consistent high standard. They are also required to run regular meetings for other editors and contributors, writing and pitching stories and setting briefs for freelance contributors to develop a publishing schedule. Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit and publish content created by the student teams
  • Manage associated professional email accounts
  • Chair team meetings with the support of Student Media Officer
  • Pitch original ideas and present briefs to the team to develop a publishing schedule
  • Ability to demonstrate resilience and flexibility with a willingness to learn new skills
  • A passion for news, arts and culture with an awareness of/interest in what's happening
  • Ability to exercise good judgement when selecting and writing stories, mindful of editorial policy and legal issues, This role is anticipated to be for 5 hours per week, including Wednesday afternoon meetings (3:30-5pm).     This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students with:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent grasp of English and is able to write creatively, clearly and concisely
  • Previous reportage or blogging experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in order to deliver objectives.
  • Ability to use initiative, creativity and judgement.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good working knowledge of WordPress
  • Previous editing or proofreading experience
