Full Job Description

This post offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled qualitative researcher to join Bristol Medical School, as part of the new NIHR-funded Global Health and Ageing Research Unit. Working within an international multi-disciplinary study team, the post holder will be expected to deliver high quality and rigorous research in collaboration with partners in Africa, including South Africa, Zimbabwe and The Gambia. The role will involve research to promote healthy ageing, improve musculoskeletal care, and menopausal health in Africa, working across several multidisciplinary projects.

The purpose of the role is to use qualitative research skills to analyse data already collected, to write reports and manuscripts, and to provide leadership of research taking place in Southern Africa, supporting qualitative researchers in the region. Strong methodological and writing skills are essential. We are building a social science team within the Global Health and Ageing Research Unit and this is the first social science post that is being advertised, Candidates should have a PhD in a discipline relevant to qualitative research (examples include sociology, psychology, anthropology, health services research) and experience and knowledge of carrying out global health research in resource-poor settings. The role can be 80% or 100% FTE from 1st January 2025 for two years. The post-holder will be required to work on Campus at least two days per week.
