Full Job Description

You will provide practice-based Aircraft Structures teaching within a Group-based 2nd Year Aerospace Undergraduate Design and Build Unit. The teaching will consist of Lectures (to approximately 180 students), small seminars and practical workshops and in-lab based practical instruction. You will also support the Unit Director in developing assessments and then marking student work. You will need to develop structural tests and carry out and coordinate composite component manufacturing.

What will you be doing?

You will teach students Aircraft structural theory and then support Groups in their design, manufacture and test of 3m wingspan UAVs within the 'AVDASI2' unit. The unit is multi-disciplinary and you will support the structures aspect of the teaching, including the development of new teaching materials and the planning and execution of the structural testing of the manufactured UAVs.

You will also organise and provision for the manufacture of the composite/structural UAV components, guiding students to designs that can satisfy the product and manufacturing and safety requirements.

  • You have a good Degree in a relevant engineering subject, ideally at PhD level. You have experience in the design and fabrication of Carbon Fibre structures.

  • You have experience in the sizing and structural design of metal and composite components.

  • You have experience of supervising and instructing Undergraduate or Postgraduate students in a practical, lab-based environment.
