Full Job Description
This Cancer Research UK (CRUK)-funded project is at the forefront of revolutionizing cancer detection, aiming to enable the identification of cancerous tumours at the earliest possible stage, ensuring timely intervention. By focusing on the design and development of cutting-edge wearable sensors and advanced data acquisition systems, this project seeks to detect lumps beneath the skin with unprecedented accuracy. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with leading academics and clinicians, including Bristol Medical School, Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon & Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance, and North Bristol NHS Trust, to create life-saving technology that could transform cancer detection and significantly improve patient outcomes. As a successful candidate, you will play a pivotal role in this ground-breaking research, engaging in hands-on experimental work, from designing and prototyping to iterative testing of wearable devices. Utilizing the state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Bristol, you will be at the heart of pioneering efforts that blend innovation with impact. Please note that, due to operational requirements, we would like the successful applicant to start in post as soon as possible. What will you be doing? You will be responsible for developing an innovative wearable device, and data collection and analysis to identify early tumours indicative of cancer. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and healthcare professionals to refine the device's accuracy, usability, and efficacy. The project outcomes are expected to be published in the field's top journals.
- You have a PhD degree in electronics engineering, materials science and engineering, or other related fields in the last 2 years or will obtain a PhD degree by the start of the project.
- You have an interest in developing innovative solutions in biomedical devices and healthcare.
- You have a research background in nanomaterials preparation/characterization, flexible electronics, bioelectronics, functional polymers, and wearable electronics.
- You have strong circuit design skills.
- You can conduct scientific research and write scientific papers independently and have published academic papers in related fields.
