Full Job Description

The School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering at the University of Bristol is looking to recruit a Lecturer in Sustainable Engineering. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and drive forward our ambitious new MSc in Sustainable Engineering.

The successful candidate will have the latitude to influence the education in sustainable engineering on three streams: civil engineering & the built environment; renewable energy; and product development & advanced manufacturing.

What will you be doing?

Teaching

You will contribute to the teaching of students across a range of programmes, with a particular responsibility for sustainable engineering subjects, including on the MSc Sustainable Engineering. This will involve teaching, contributing to teaching management and development, and collaborating with other academic team members to teach these fundamentals to students across the School. Additionally, you will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects in these fields.

Research

You will conduct internationally leading research in the field of sustainable engineering. It is expected that your work will complement the high-calibre research undertaken at the University and have a societal impact, as reflected in Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercises. Close collaboration with leading groups within the University's Faculty of Engineering will be essential to the role, with the objective of applying groundbreaking research to real-world challenges.

Administration

Academic roles are expected to provide leadership and academic input into various administrative processes as they affect the core functions of teaching and research (e.g. student recruitment and admissions, research ethics etc.). While you will not be expected to undertake a significant administrative role in the first year of employment, you will be given the opportunity to apply for administrative leadership roles within the organisation to meet this expectation in the future.

You are passionate about sustainable engineering.

You value working within a diverse and multi-cultural team and are prepared to serve as a role model in inclusive workplace behaviours.

You can build strong, effective relationships with a range of stakeholders within and beyond the University.

You have excellent communication skills and can clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
