We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic senior systematic reviewer with experience in leading evidence syntheses for the National Screening Committee and for the NICE technology appraisal process to join the BEAM (Bristol Evidence Synthesis, Appraisal and Modelling) Centre at the University of Bristol. BEAM brings together researchers working on evidence synthesis and modelling research across Bristol Medical School. BEAM is an internationally renowned centre of excellence in evidence synthesis and is the only centre to host all three types of NIHR funded Evidence Synthesis Groups (ESGs), providing access to a wealth of knowledge and expertise in evidence synthesis across a broad range of topics and clinical areas. You will work primarily with the newly funded Bristol Evidence Synthesis for Screening (BESS) Group, with a smaller involvement in leading clinical effectiveness work for Bristol Technology Assessment Group (TAG) and with some flexibility to contribute to work of the other evidence synthesis research groups where needed. The BESS Group will conduct evidence syntheses to support the work of the National Screening Committee (NSC). Bristol TAG is one of the External Assessment Groups commissioned by the NIHR to produce independent reviews on the clinical and cost-effectiveness of healthcare technologies to support NICE guidance committees and other policy makers. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team including systematic reviewers, statisticians, information specialists, qualitative researchers, and health economists. You will also work closely with clinical experts and public contributors. What will you be doing? Projects will include applied evidence syntheses, from evidence maps and rapid reviews to full systematic reviews, and may include methodological work related to evidence synthesis. You will be required to:

  • Oversee and manage evidence synthesis projects for the BESS Group and Bristol TAG, providing leadership, managing project timelines, resolving disagreements within the team, and taking responsibility for the overall success of projects.
  • Provide leadership and supervision for more junior team members
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all research partners, including other members of the BEAM Centre and external collaborators, stakeholders, and public contributors.
  • Lead on writing peer reviewed publications, grant proposals and conference presentations

You have an international reputation for research in the field of evidence synthesis, particularly of diagnostic test evaluation
  • You have a track record of leading the delivery of highly quality evidence syntheses to commissioners including the National Screening Committee and for the NICE technology appraisal process.
  • You have experience of leading all types of evidence synthesis projects including evidence maps, evidence summaries and full systematic reviews
  • You have a relevant PhD
