Full Job Description

We have an opportunity to support a Visually Impaired (VI) individual who currently works as a DEI Adviser in the Culture Diversity Equity and Inclusion (CDEI) Division on a 10 month secondment/FTC. The role will also be able support the CDEI Division in terms of admin support. The time split for this is as follows:

  • 0.6 FTE (21 hrs per week) resource to be on-hand to support with any aspects of the DEI Advisor role which are not accessible to our VI colleague.
  • 0.4 FTE (14 hrs per week) to provide additional support for CDEI
  • This role creates a doubly exciting opportunity to both act as a reasonable adjustment, facilitating a blind person in the successful completion of role, whilst also getting closer to the Bank's DEI agenda. However, our primary goal is to have an Access Assistant, so, as such, anyone looking to accept the part-time role only will be equally considered. Role Responsibilities Access Assistant tasks include:
  • General administrative duties: flagging emails for action, diary management, compiling papers etc.
  • Sighted guide: physically guiding to in-person meetings, the canteen, toilets, and around Bank buildings.
  • Support with inaccessible documents and systems: translating and transferring documents into useable formats, describing visual materials, opening documents and sending information, and using systems under direction on the individual's behalf
  • Document preparation and checking: proof-reading documents produced by the individual, assisting with formatting, saving in Filesite, and producing things in visual format.
  • Reading and formatting graphical and numerical materials.
  • Ad hoc tasks include:
  • Taking minutes in meetings.
  • Researching and compiling resources.
  • Monitoring the team mailbox.
  • Helping team members within capacity.
  • Attending meetings as a participant rather than support role.

    Knowledge of or demonstrable desire to support individuals with disabilities including physical support of sighted guidance.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications
  • Experience providing admin support
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to describe visual material including graphs and charts and emotional reactions to a VI person.
  • Essential Criteria:
  • A passion for DEI for example through local working groups, networks or outside volunteering.
  • Desirable Criteria:
  • Knowledge of vision impairment or working with disabled people (or the ability to learn).
  • Interest in DEI work and the work within the Bank or willing to learn about it.
