Full Job Description

  • Relationship Management: Take lead responsibility for driving mutually successful partnerships with allocated accounts. These will be the largest and most important contracts within the Strategic Partner. Develop and maintain relationships with senior level management at customer organisations to uncover new business opportunities. Collaborate with and orchestrate the broader internal network. Improve and develop Avantor's broad relationship with allocated key accounts.
  • Strategy Development: Lead development of tactical plans to deliver company goals and maximise revenues and profits. Roll out and manage initiatives and business development plans as agreed with leadership to achieve maximum growth. Effectively communicate customer strategies, market indicators and future direction to internal management and work closely as a subject matter expert with the wider Biotech team to implement initiatives successfully.
  • Targets: Meet/exceed set targets. Be a key part of delivery of all KPIs assigned to the Biotech Segment team including for example across customer engagement, opportunity generation, funnel management, sales growth and portfolio development.
  • Visits: Achieve a minimum of 10 customer visits per week.
  • Business Development: Work with internal and external teams to initiate and drive new business opportunities. Deliver market development plans to deliver future potential. Work with other key players to ensure effective communication across business units. Maintain and develop partnership relationships with both internal and external customers and key suppliers. Take the key responsibility for understanding the various strategies of customers and key industry players.
  • Management: This role has no line management responsibility, but provides leadership and support to the Strategic Partner UK Team and associated Account Managers and Specialists. As such responsibility is to build expertise to be able to guide teams through projects and opportunities, coach and develop team members so that they have the direction, skills and tools to achieve their targets, providing regular coaching and performance feedback.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including forecasting, strategy development and other ad-hoc projects to support the Strategic Partner initiatives.

    Degree level achievement in a Scientific or Technical related area
  • Proven track record of sales management within the scientific / technical industry or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a high paced and target driven environment
  • Experience in delivering accurate forecasting, budget planning and in-depth business reviews
  • (internally and externally)
  • Experience of utilising, manipulating and interpreting data in Excel
  • Experience of utilising and designing presentation slide decks within PowerPoint or equivalent and high-level presenting skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & COMPETENCIES (Those necessary to achieve conformity of products and services)
  • Strong background in science - particularly life science techniques and processes
  • Ability to demonstrate a record of success in a previous key account sales role is highly desirable, particularly in the pharmaceutical market.
  • An ability to network throughout a complex customer, developing multiple partnership-based relationships in a range of departments with contacts demonstrating an array of personality types.
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to influence others in a matrix environment.
  • Should be based within one hour of Cambridge and hold a full UK driving licence.
  • A proactive attitude with good time management.
  • Knowledge of the customer base.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT
  • Frequent travel around UK with ad-hoc travel abroad as required.
  • Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but may require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
