Full Job Description

The Acting Lead Cancer Nurse will provide visible, clinical, and professional leadership and direction to Cancer Services and Cancer Nursing across the organisation, including leading the Specialist Cancer Nursing workforce. They will work in close collaboration as part of the Cancer Management Team with the Trust Cancer Clinical Director, Deputy Director of Elective Care and Cancer Manager, contributing to the development and improvement of Trust-wide cancer services.,

  • Direct Line management and professional accountable for the Cancer Specialist Nursing Teams.
  • Clear, visible direction and leadership to deliver excellence in cancer nursing.
  • Improved patient experience (as measured by the cancer patient survey and by frequent patient feedback) through Cancer MDTs and Divisional teams.
  • Ensure quality improvement initiatives and service redesign across cancer service provision.
  • Create and promote the cancer nursing strategies in collaboration with the Deputy Lead Cancer Nurse, Specialist Cancer Nurses, and Lead Nurses across the Trust.
  • Support structured cancer teaching programmes for nursing and associated staff in cancer and non-cancer areas.
  • Promote and support structured cancer nursing research.
  • Improved patient information and access to support across the Trust, being responsive to the changing patient needs and patient demographics.

    Masters Level qualification in appropriate subject
  • Registered Nurse with NMC
  • Leadership qualification
  • Advanced Communications Skills training
  • Desirable criteria
  • Psychological or mentorship support training, Experience of managing cancer teams
  • Experience of working within cancer services
  • Significant nursing leadership role
  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary working at local and national level
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Research experience
  • Previous experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Understanding of national cancer standards and performance
  • Desirable criteria
  • Cancer Specialist Nurse background
  • Clinical publications or presentation at conferences, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
