Full Job Description

The CHoICE pharmacy home delivery service has recently expanded resulting in an exciting opportunity for a highly organised administrative assistant with excellent communication skills to join the existing team in providing administrative support to the service.

This role will involve responsibility for the scheduling, ordering and management of prescriptions by acting as a first point of contact for patients, the pharmacy team and external delivery providers for the home delivery service. In addition you will also be required to update, organise and maintain an efficient and accurate filing system both paper based and electronically, ensuring that all information is accurate and up to date.

This role will also require you to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders such as consultants, nurses, pharmacists and patients. This may be in person, over the phone or in writing. As well as being highly organised you must be able to prioritise tasks and be able to manage your own workload effectively to ensure that a high quality service is delivered to patients.

The post will be based in the outpatient pharmacy department at South Tyneside Hospital, although there will be no requirement to be involved in the dispensing process, therefore no previous pharmacy experience is required.

Main duties of the job

This is a part time role for 20 hours per week.

The CHoICE pharmacy service currently provides a delivery service to around 1200 patients and manages repeat prescriptions for 250 kidney transplant patients. We are currently rapidly expanding this extremely popular service, and therefore require additional administrative support.

The role will involve managing the database for these patient groups to ensure that it is accurate and up to date, identifying which patients are due their medication, contacting patients to arrange deliveries and liaising with the medical, pharmacy and delivery teams to organise prescribing and dispensing of prescriptions.

This role will also involve occasional administrative support to the superintendent pharmacist in terms of diary management and note taking at meetings.

The role will also involve providing occasional administrative support to the superintendent pharmacist, and therefore previous experience of diary management and note taking would be useful, but not essential.
