Full Job Description

Lancaster Medical School seeks to appoint an Admissions and Assessment Manager to provide leadership in these two important domains of activity.

Lancaster Medical School (LMS) is a large and complex department delivering a portfolio of qualifications at Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) level. Many of these are the subject of regulatory oversight by regulators, including the General Medical Council (GMC). Lancaster Medical School is approved to deliver a Primary Medical Qualification (PMQ) which permits those graduating with this qualification to practise medicine in the UK.

The delivery of this qualification is very complex and relies on the interactions with a wide range of partners in the NHS and beyond. Examples include the wide range of assessments which students enrolled on the Medicine (MBChB) degree must engage with across their five years of study - many of these taking place in clinical settings within the NHS.

Admissions to programmes delivered by LMS is complex, especially for admission to the MBChB programme. With very large numbers of applications for a cohort, the size of which is capped by government, and the need to score a gathered field of applicants before inviting a proportion to engage with the interview process which is used to select candidates offered a place on our programme.

Managing this assessment and admissions activity, and remaining compliant with regulatory requirements, requires a dedicated Professional Services Team, and this team requires experienced strategic and operational leadership.

You will report to the Medical School Manager and lead the Professional Service colleagues involved in the admission and assessment activities across Lancaster Medical School and support the relevant academic directors in strategic developments. You will provide effective management of the Admissions and Assessment processes for all undergraduate programmes offered by Lancaster Medical School.
