Full Job Description
We are looking for innovative, motivated and compassionate mental health professionals to join the Mental Health Liaison Team within Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. The service operates 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, therefore shift working including nights will be required. We would consider part time applications and fixed working patterns but please phone to discuss prior to application.
You will be an experienced Band 6 Mental Health Professional who is able to work autonomously with patients over the age of 18, with either an acute mental health concern or worsening of a pre-existing condition, you will be able to conduct full, holistic biopsychosocial mental health assessments, undertake robust risk assessments and management plans and develop collaborative recovery focused care plans with patients and their carers. Working alongside our acute physical health colleagues at Queen Alexandra Hospital, you'll be an important figure in advocating for patients and promoting parity of esteem within the acute setting.
The team is made up of a full MDT and includes mental health nurses, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, peer support workers and health care support workers. It is a rich learning environment, with daily MDT meetings, reflective practice, round table discussions as well as more formal teaching sessions., To provide specialist mental health assessments for working age adult patients and older people within Queen Alexandra Hospital.
To effectively and efficiently provide psychological support to patients with mental health needs who are temporarily in crisis, or who have mental health needs as a result of their physical illness or as a result of being hospitalised.
To advise non-psychiatry staff on outcome of assessment and formulate a care plan based on clinical intervention and risk management.
To provide time limited liaison reviews when needed for those patients with more complex and enduring mental health needs whilst inpatient in Queen Alexandra hospital.
Work positively and collaboratively as an integral part of the Specialist Adult Mental Health services, Older Peoples Mental Health services and effectively liaise with multi-agency colleagues, patients and their supporters.
Contribute to the development and quality of clinical practice of liaison work with this client group at local and national levels.
To provide mental health education, advice and training to clinical staff and students at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
To work various shift patterns participating in a flexible, 7 days per week rota on a shift rotational basis. The service operates over a 24hr period therefore covering night shifts will be essential.
