Full Job Description

To perform all clinical laboratory tasks to support the specialised diagnostic service in the Histopathology department and become the department lead in immunohistochemistry and quality. This is a highly specialised role, requiring advanced knowledge and will involve taking direct responsibility for managing the performance of a functional area of the laboratory. This includes quality control and assurance and training of Biomedical Scientists, other laboratory staff, other healthcare professionals and direct technical supervision of unqualified staff. Additionally, the post holder will plan the daily work of the sections and allocate staff to tasks if necessary with discretion to work within established protocols and to make professional judgments within own his/her own area of specialisation. The post-holder will be involved with direct handling of uncontained body fluids of patients. The post-holder will deputise for the Section Manager when required. Additionally the post holder

Applicants must be HCPC registered and hold and IBMS accredited BSc degree or equivalent with at least five years post- registration experience in a UKAS accredited clinical histopathology laboratory.
Applicants must hold a MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent in an
appropriate subject (candidate studying for an MSc will be considered)/ IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma Portfolio - or completion within 3 months.
The successful post holder will be the lead in both Quality and Immunohistochemistry. This requires specialist knowledge of immunohistochemistry, the ability to manage this section of the laboratory and assist in staff development and training within this specialist area and other areas of the department.
As the quality lead the candidate will be required to have previous experience of QMS. Previous experience of root cause analysis, verification, lead auditor training and change management would be advantageous for the role.
The role will require supervisory skills, the ability to be an effective team leader and have excellent communication skills.
