Full Job Description

  • The post-holder will assist in the provision of an efficient and smooth running service within the Department by following the departmental SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and protocols throughout all sections of the department.
  • The post-holder will be mainly involved in the reception and sorting of specimens, routine processing of specimens and associated tasks, input of patient information onto the laboratory computer, disposal of infected material and preparation of reagents.
  • A flexible approach to the hours of employment is required, according to the individual contract., You will support Healthcare Scientific staff by maintaining analytical equipment, producing chemical reagents and preparing biological specimens for analysis. You will help to meet quality standards necessary for accreditation, and ensure that protocols are followed in a way that maintains Health, Safety and Information Security for individuals, the Department and the Trust., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

As a Laboratory Support Worker, you will play a key role in helping to deliver and develop our comprehensive, clinical immunology service., Band 3 Laboratory Support Workers will have had previous experience of working in an NHS diagnostic laboratory., You will have a positive, professional approach to patient care and be keen to work as part of a busy, highly skilled team. Previous experience within a diagnostic laboratory is essential for this post., GCSE English and Maths or equivalent

  • GSCE or equivalent Maths, Recent, relevant work experience in an NHS Diagnostic Laboratory
  • Experience of staff supervision and training
