Full Job Description

This is a training and development role under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will be required to undertake up to a 24 month training/development programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain a Master's Degree qualification and/or demonstrable equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Completion of the identified qualification/development programme is a requirement of the contract of employment for this role ., As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner the post holder will:
  • Exercise nurse prescribing responsibilities within the boundaries of the registration for FEP; holding an independent nurse prescribing qualification and work/prescribe within the legal realms of a registered nurse prescriber. Demonstrate courageous and critical thinking. Provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care under the direction and supervision of a consultant psychiatrist. Demonstrate safe, competent clinical decision-making and expert care, including assessment and diagnostic skills, for patients within Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital (RGH) and the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within Princess of Wales Hospital (POWH) supervised by the consultant psychiatrist and RC for the individual patient. Work collaboratively with the wider Adult Mental Health Service, Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) and other allied agencies. Commit to demonstrating critical thinking in the safe clinical decision-making process to meet the needs of patients, Support and lead the development and delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required

    During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows : Months 1 - 12 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 8a pay scale, Months 13-24 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 8a pay scale. Upon successful attainment of the qualification and/or demonstrable skills, knowledge and experience, even if sooner than the 24 month allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the Band 8a as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Advanced Nurse Practitioner Job Description as indicated.
