About Us Join our specialist Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence Team/PH Research Team, where we work to improve population health and address health inequalities across Derbyshire. This is a dynamic opportunity to influence public health strategies through innovative analysis, impactful research, and knowledge translation. We are committed to ensuring our services are effective, cost-effective, evidence-informed, and targeted at reducing disparities in health outcomes. About the Role We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional with specialist expertise in epidemiology, advanced statistical methods, and health economics. You will collaborate with others to lead and address some of the most pressing health challenges in our communities, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently to deliver the greatest impact on population health., + Statistical Analysis & Research Design + Develop and implement study designs, including sample size calculations, power analysis, and hypothesis testing. + Apply regression techniques (e.g., linear, logistic) and survey methodologies to identify and understand drivers of health inequalities. Advanced Statistical Techniques + Conduct in-depth analyses using methods such as Poisson regression, survival analysis, and time series modelling (e.g., ARIMA). + Perform geospatial (GIS) and multivariate analyses to map inequalities and identify areas requiring targeted intervention. Evaluation and Impact Assessments + Lead on quasi-experimental studies, including interrupted time series analysis, difference-in-differences (DiD), and propensity score matching, to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions aimed at reducing health disparities. Health Economics + Conduct cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, and benefit-cost analyses to ensure resources are allocated efficiently and interventions are delivering maximum value for money. + Use and interpret metrics such as Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) and Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) to evaluate the impact of services on population health and inequalities. + Provide insights and advice to support the design and implementation of cost-effective services that deliver improved health outcomes while addressing inequities.
- Public Health Strategy Delivery
- Drive key priorities within the Public Health Strategy, with a particular focus on reducing health inequalities and ensuring services are both impactful and cost-effective.
- Lead/contribute to deep dives that also support the JSNA transformation programme to ensure the needs of the most disadvantaged groups are addressed, including contributing to writing for publication on areas where there are gaps in the evidence. Capacity Building and Training
- Design and deliver engaging statistical and health economics training sessions within the team and for non-specialist audiences, enhancing analytical and economic evaluation awareness and capacity across public health., This role is central to ensuring Derbyshire County Council delivers cost-effective public health interventions that maximize health outcomes and reduce inequalities. You will play a key part in shaping services to ensure they are efficient, equitable, and impactful, helping us make the most of our resources to support the health and well-being of our communities.
Proven experience in leading programmes and projects that include statistical analysis, epidemiology, and health economics, with a focus on improving population health outcomes and reducing inequalities. - Expertise in conducting economic evaluations, including benefit-cost, cost-utility, and cost-effectiveness analyses.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex data and health economic insights to diverse audiences, ensuring they are actionable.
- A passion for continuous learning, with the flexibility to develop expertise in new areas as required for the role., While all listed areas are desirable (epidemiology, advanced statistical methods, and health economics), candidates who have significant expertise in one to two areas should demonstrate a commitment to professional development to acquire advanced specialist skills in the area/s where experience is limited.
