Full Job Description
We are recruiting for an experienced Advance Process Control Engineer to lead the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of Advanced Process Control (APC) strategies across all refinery units. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the APC long-term plan, and operate with significant autonomy, coordinating with internal teams (Operations, Planning, Maintenance, etc.) and external partners (suppliers, vendors, and technical networks). The role is expected to have a significant impact on valorisation improvements.,
- APC Development & Management: Define, implement, and manage the APC roadmap; optimize APC systems to enhance throughput, yield, and energy efficiency.
- Process Optimization: Align APC strategies with production planning and refinery-wide linear programming (LP) targets; monitor and troubleshoot control loops and system performance.
- Lifecycle & Maintenance: Oversee the full lifecycle of APC applications, including tuning, constraint reviews, and automated lab biasing systems; manage the performance and reliability of APC systems against KPIs.
- Training & Documentation: Deliver effective training and documentation to Process Technicians, Engineers, and Operations personnel to ensure understanding and effective application of APC strategies.
- Capital Projects & Change Management: Lead feasibility studies and manage the approval process for APC-related projects; prepare and review Management of Change (MoC) documentation and lead multidisciplinary review sessions.
- Collaboration & Industry Best Practices: Engage with internal teams and external networks to stay updated on industry advancements and best practices. Ensure that cybersecurity protocols and system administration tasks are followed.
- Software & System Support: Oversee system upgrades, address software and hardware obsolescence, and ensure effective operation of APC tools and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field. - Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of refining processes, process modelling, simulation, and control techniques (including advanced and multivariable control, loop tuning, and optimization). In-depth understanding of refinery economic drivers and considerations. Proficient troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- APC Tools & Systems: Familiarity with APC tools and DCS - AspenTech DMCplus/DMC3, AspenWatch, GDOT, DCS algorithm libraries, and system administration tasks. Understanding of industrial data exchange protocols and historians (e.g., Cim-IO, OPC DA/UA).
- Software & Cybersecurity: Experience in software upgrades, operating system administration, and awareness of cybersecurity protocols.
- Teamwork & Leadership: Strong ability to collaborate within diverse teams, demonstrate leadership, and manage both short-term tasks and long-term goals.
