Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible therapy assistant to join the busy stroke team at the Royal London Hospital.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and good time management skills. Experience of working with patients or the public is essential, and you will be required to demonstrate the Trust values at all times.
This post involves close multidisciplinary team working with the Physiotherapists, Speech and Language and Occupational therapists within the acute setting; as well as the wider MDT team including doctors and nurses. The post is working on the inpatient stroke ward
(which is a mixture of hyper acute and acute stroke beds).
The role involves a number of different duties, including working unsupervised, reporting back regarding patient progress, informing the therapists of any problems and maintaining appropriate records as well as providing assistance to the therapists with patient assessment and treatment sessions, carrying out intervention and treatment programmes, ordering equipment and stock supply, and completion of organisational and administrative tasks., To support the inpatient therapy teams (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy) within the Acute Stroke Unit at the Royal London Hospital in providing high quality patient centered care:
· To assist therapists in the rehabilitation of patients by carrying out treatment plans developed by therapists and by progressing those treatment plans within agreed frameworks.
· To carry out patient assessment and treatment in a wide variety of settings including the ward and gym.
· To undertake formalised assessments and reporting including access visits and cognitive and functional measures.
· To facilitate stroke survivors with self-management
· Work autonomously without direct supervision to support patients in their rehabilitation plans using advanced communication and therapeutic handling skills.
· Assist therapists in treatment requiring more than one therapist including those with complex therapeutic handling needs.
· To lead the efficiency processes of timetabling and prioritisation for Rehab Support Workers (RSWs)
· Lead the delivery of Therapist prescribed group exercise and education programmes.
· To autonomously identify need for re-evaluation, progression and termination of interventions
· Modify specific patient treatment programmes by reassessing and progressing as appropriate where agreed by responsible Therapist
