Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Advanced Speech and Language Therapist to join our service to provide input into the Regional Communication Aid Service (RCAS). This is a fixed term 12-month position to cover maternity leave. The base for this post will be Walkergate Park Hospital in Newcastle.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to build on their specialist clinical experience in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). You will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have the skills and knowledge to develop the delivery of Speech and Language Therapy within these services, whilst providing excellent, high-quality input.
RCAS is a regional specialised service commissioned by NHS England to provide a service to adults and children with complex communication needs who require the provision of Augmentative and Alternative Communication., You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, clients, carers and other professionals to provide specialised assessment and provision of augmentative and alternative communication systems.
You will need to be confident in providing high quality, evidence-based assessments and interventions in the field of AAC and have an understanding and experience of working with people with a range of complex communication and other disabilities within a variety of settings and environments.
You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work independently. You will provide informal training, coaching and support to individuals, their families and other professionals. You will also lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of training programmes for local speech and language therapy teams.
You will work closely with the clinical lead for the team and will provide clinical supervision, support and leadership for other members of the team as designated.
Regular support and supervision will be available, as well as training and development opportunities. You will be expected to actively engage in this and the continuing professional development process.
The post involves significant travel across the North East of England and North Cumbria.
