Full Job Description

We are currently seeking a Development Engineer to join the Aftertreatment Engineering Team. This role will be focused on developing solutions to address challenging requirements, either within New Product Introduction or updates to existing platforms for a variety of Off-highway applications. The successful candidate will serve as an experienced contributor to projects that are complex in nature, working with individuals and teams across global Manufacturing sites, suppliers and customers.

  • What You Will Do

    As a Development Engineer in the team, you will be expected to have a experience of developing IC Engine components and systems, knowledge of IC engines components and /or emissions modules, be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks/projects with minimal supervision.

    Relevant experience in development and validation of a variety of engine systems and exhaust / emissions modules. Preferred but not limited to experience in the following:
  • Aftertreatment and emissions modules, complex Mounting systems

  • DEF Mixing units

  • Working in a multi-disciplined team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirements.

  • Developing solutions for complex issues arising from the Quality and Manufacturing environments.

  • Developing strong relationships with suppliers to ensure design solutions are aligned to high quality and cost expectations.

  • Lead FMEA creation for engine components and systems, identify risks and create validation plan / DVP&R.

  • Write technical reports to document evidence of component and system level validation.

  • Create Functional Requirement Documents for Engine component systems.

  • Manage communication with peers, team leaders and stakeholders to keep them up to date on the status and progress on projects undertaken.

  • Support field and production issues, determine root cause, put in place containment actions, and determine permanent corrective actions. Work with suppliers and keep stakeholders informed of progress and decisions.

  • Good planning and organizational skills, Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued / demonstrated progressive experience within a relevant role

  • Knowledge of Mechanical & preferably an experience in Aftertreatment systems

  • Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes.

  • Apply 6 Sigma methodology in identifying and validating root cause for any in-field customer / technical issues.

  • Self-motivated, teamwork, organised, good communication skills with an ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet commitments.

  • To collaborate with external suppliers to develop technical solutions using APQP tools.


  • Technical Excellence - Superior Level (non-essential):
  • Experience of running and participating in FMEA

  • Experience in component and engine validation & verification

  • Bolted joint and clamped joint development

  • Development and Validation experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector

  • Knowledge and usage of Team Centre - data management software

  • Familiarity with Microsoft O365 including Teams
