Full Job Description

The Sparsholt College Group is dedicated to supporting students with SEN and ensuring that students reach their full potential. Over the past few years, we have had an increase in young people with both Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Special Educational Needs (SEN) and have developed our curriculum and grown our staff team in order to offer an outstanding experience for our students. We are seeking new staff to join our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team. Supporting students can be incredibly rewarding as it enables you to help them to reach their goals. You will provide both academic and emotional support to ensure that each young person can flourish. Working within the ALS team offers plenty of opportunity for career progression - either into specialist support roles or as the first steps towards becoming a teacher. The college offers excellent training opportunities and can help support with teacher training which is provided onsite. The classroom experience that is gained during your time supporting learners can prove invaluable when it comes to dealing with challenging situations or when making the step into a teaching role. The nature of a learner support role means that no two days are ever the same and that the responsibilities vary greatly too. Every day in the role is different, whether you're faced with new parts of the curriculum, new topics or new issues to find a solution to. It makes it an interesting and varied job. Keyworkers support students, either in a group setting or on a 1-1 basis, both in class and throughout the college day. However, as well as this you will have a caseload of key students for whom you will take responsibility for ensuring they are meeting the course requirements as well as being prepared for adulthood. You will liaise with parents and carers, ensuring that the EHCP requirements are being delivered. You will work with our SEN officers to ensure reviews happen in a timely manner and that students are progressing and meeting their targets.

With experience of working with young people, ideally in an educational setting., you will need to have a "can-do" attitude along with a good standard of education including English and Maths at grade C/4 or above or equivalent. A willingness to undertake further training is essential.
