Full Job Description

To assist in the management of the Additional Learning Support Service to ensure that students with SEND receive high quality and effective support. To include the management of significant student and Learning Support Assistant caseloads.

To ensure that the service operates using a person centred and multi-agency approach, meets its statutory duties as laid out in the SEND Code of Practice (including effective management of the EHCP review process) and Equality Act and is fit for purpose under the Ofsted Common Inspection Framework. To ensure that the service operates in line with local authority protocols.

The post will report directly to the SEND Manager and will assist with the strategic developments relating to College provision for students with SEND.

2. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

The duties and responsibilities in this position are inherently of a professional nature and are wide ranging. They include, but are not restricted to the following: -

Responsible for a case load of SEND students identified through the referral process.

Directly line manage a case load of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to ensure effective performance.

Through close links with parents, schools, Local Authority SEN teams and Social Care teams assess individual support needs using a person centred and multi-agency approach.

Manage the referral and transition process for a student caseload across specified Subject Sector Areas to ensure effective information management and transition into/within college. Ensure that effective transition plans are in place and activities implemented in accordance with local authority protocols.

Manage communication/information sharing between the ALS service and allocated curriculum teams (including Progression Coaches) to ensure a caseload of individual student SEND needs are met

Be the key link for parents and external professionals regarding a specified student caseload of individual students with SEND

Assist the ALS Team Leader with the design, cost and implementation of support packages.

Be responsible for information sharing in line with local authority protocol and complete and return provider assessments in a timely manner.

Provide constant on-programme support to ensure progress and well-being, including facilitating One Plan/Education, Health and Care Plan reviews embracing a multi-agency approach to meet the statutory duty under the SEN Code of Practice.

Develop work placement opportunities for students with learning difficulties/disabilities including health and safety checks, risk assessments and monitoring progress.

2.2 Carry out quality audits of LSA support documentation and support staff to ensure improvements.

2.3 Maintain constant parental/care agency liaison.

2.4 Provide on-going support to curriculum staff regarding the meeting of needs.

2.5 Administration in relation to the service, contributing to the collation of reports, statistics, etc.

2.6 Participate in quality assurance activities and participate in team/other meetings, including attendance at vocational course team meetings when appropriate.

2.7 Ensure that all students have access to appropriate support irrespective of their individual needs and personal circumstances

2.8 Comply with college policies, procedures and quality assurance systems

2.9 Undertaken any other reasonable duties as may be assigned by the line manager.
